Stuck for ideas for an upcoming baby shower? Check out this article with lots of ideas.
To make this a really great baby shower gift idea make sure to include things like a gift certificate for a prenatal massage!
In addition to the great suggestion of a prenatal massage gift certificate, a couple other ideas were gift baskets and a diaper cake. I had never heard of a diaper cake, so here’s the description, followed by some tips for gift baskets:

Sprains, tendonitis, broken bones… What comes to mind first when you hear these words? Football? Rugby? Mixed martial arts? Ballet? Wait. “Ballet”?!?! Yep.
The article Sprains and tendonitis: Dancer injuries and treatments by Lindsay Zier-Vogel introduces us to Paul Papoutsakis, the company athletic therapist for the National Ballet of Canada. As company athletic therapist, Papoutsakis “regularly treats acute injuries, like twisted ankles and broken bones, and says the pain threshold of dancers is probably the highest of all other athletes.”, the article informs us.

I’ll be one of a few volunteers giving free massage and bodywork to the survivors and firemen of the Santa Barbara Tea Fire at Santa Barbara Yoga Center. Lais da Silva, owner and founder of Santa Barbara Yoga Center, has been generous enough to organize a clinic at her beautiful and peaceful yoga center in an effort to promote healing in our community in the wake of this tragedy.

“[Elam] uses various ointments to reduce tissue damage and speed recovery, and he visits a massage therapist…
I recently found a really great testimonial for sports massage in the New York Times. As we saw in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, athletes are retiring later and later in life, with more and more success in their later years, as well. Stefan Fatsis looks at this same phenomenon in the N.F.L. – especially the kickers. He says they’re having their best season and that the older players are have the best season …

In Alex M. McDonald’s article Plantar Fasciitis: Overview, Prevention and Treatment, we’re given a brief overview of what exactly plantar fasciitis is and how to treat it and prevent it from coming back. First of all, Dr. McDonald explains that plantar fasciitis is an irritation of the fascia in the bottom of the foot. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the term fascia, dictionary.com gives the following definition:
a band or sheath of connective tissue investing, supporting, or binding together internal organs or parts of the …

So, hot stone massage uses stones to massage the client. A sugar scrub uses, yep, sugar. So guess what a snake massage uses! Yep. Snakes. Recently TIME magazine journalists Tim McGirk / Talmei Elazar wrote about a woman in northern Israel named Ada Barak. Barak has a business where clients lie on a massage table and have snakes slither around on them to give their own version of massage!

Interesting video, showing Thai Massage in Thailand. Not much as far as production here, but I found it very interesting and although I’ve never been to Thailand, I imagine it to be very authentic.
Great also for clients who like Thai Massage, but think they’re not interested in compression massage. Watch the video and you’ll see that Thai Massage employs compressions!
reflexology »
Reflexology is a specialized form of massage which proponents claim can heal a variety of diseases. Basically, this therapy has two forms: foot reflexology (the more popular type), and hand reflexology. Both are known as zone therapy, a term coined by Dr. William Fitzgerald over 80 years ago.
The system was later popularized by Dr. Edwin F. Bowers and taken by a masseuse, Eunice Ingham. She developed the so-called “Ingham Reflex Method of Compression,” according to Mark Bricklin in The Practical Encyclopedia of Natural Healing.

I was never a believer in massages until I started about two years ago. I’m at the point in my career where I need massages and stretching to keep myself flexible. It works.

I found quite an interesting article today. If you’re like so many people, you think of massage as being a luxury that mostly women indulge in on a “mani-pedi-pampering” day. …And you may have the stereotype of football players being tough and macho and therefore, not going in for …

Most of the recovery strategies people employ which involve hydration, good nutrition, ice baths, pool and saltwater recovery and massage are used to hasten recovery from DOMS to enable you to be as well prepared as possible for the next time you need to train so that you don’t injure yourself.

Q: I saw an Olympic volleyball player with black tape on her shoulder. The announcer said it was to help her recover from shoulder surgery. What’s that about?
A: Athletic taping has been used for years to provide support and stability, especially when recovering from injury or surgery. It can also help with reduction of swelling and pain.

Mashers are people who literally walk on your body to help work out stubborn kinks and knots. If you’re five-time U.S. Olympic swimmer Dara Torres, your mashers are experienced massage therapists, who know exactly how to pivot while stepping on your calves and quads.
But if you’re a weekend warrior, you might have an amateur masher like mine: a 30-pound preschooler who thinks it’s fun to stand on your neck while you’re in the downward facing dog yoga pose, or an inverted V. …

Bypassing Beijing proving beneficial

Players receiving mid-match massages have become the norm…
NEW YORK – Andy Roddick didn’t want to kid himself and he didn’t want to lie to others. Sure, there were times during the Olympics when the 26-year-old had second thoughts about his decision to forgo the opportunity to represent the United States in Beijing, especially when his Davis Cup teammate, James Blake, upset top-seeded Roger Federer.
