Sprains, tendonitis, broken bones... What comes to mind first when you hear these words? Football? Rugby? Mixed martial arts? Ballet? Wait. "Ballet"?!?! Yep.

The article Sprains and tendonitis: Dancer injuries and treatments by Lindsay Zier-Vogel introduces us to Paul Papoutsakis, the company athletic therapist for the National Ballet of Canada. As company athletic therapist, Papoutsakis "regularly treats acute injuries, like twisted ankles and broken bones, and says the pain threshold of dancers is probably the highest of all other athletes.", the article informs us.

In Alex M. McDonald’s article Plantar Fasciitis: Overview, Prevention and Treatment, we’re given a brief overview of what exactly plantar fasciitis is and how to treat it and prevent it from coming back. First of all, Dr. McDonald explains that plantar fasciitis is an irritation of the fascia in the bottom of the foot. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the term fascia, dictionary.com gives the following definition:
a band or sheath of connective tissue investing, supporting, or binding together internal organs or parts of the body. ...

Some time back I received a request from a reader to cover treatments for violinists. Although violin-playing is not a sport, these clients are athletes — each day undergoing continuous use of their upper extremities, especially the hands. Let’s cover some of the common dysfunctions seen in violinists, as well as preventive treatments to help keep these athletes’ upper extremities in good shape. ...
